The American Academy of Dermatology Releases A Position Statement on Vitamin D-Finally!

I am delighted to see that the American Academy of Dermatology has released a new position paper on vitamin D. In my opinion,  releasing this paper is an acknowledgment that their recommendation for all of us to avoid sun completely for these last decades has contributed to the current vitamin D deficiency epidemic.

They are still only recommending RDA level-recommendations of replacement. However, I am delighted that they have come out with this statement.

To quote from their position paper:
"The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that an adequate amount of vitamin D should be obtained from a healthy diet that includes foods naturally rich in vitamin D, foods/beverages fortified with vitamin D, and/or vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D should not be obtained from unprotected exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation."

As I point out in my book,it  is close to impossible to get sufficient levels of vitamin D from food alone at levels that will  protect us from all the long latency deficiency diseases that are now associated with this most important vitamin–hormone.

I am still looking forward to the RDA for Vitamin D being raised by 10 fold in the near future.

Yes Good-to-Know you should be fine to use Dovenex cream and take 2000IU of Vitamin D but I would recommend a blood level and getting your blood up as well for the psoriasis.

I grew up in Iowa and spent a lot of time in the sun. (Without a shirt of course) I developed a lot of very large freckles across my shoulders which at that time I thought little of. Over the past several years (15 or so) I have developed a number of large moles. I recently went to the doctor to have one removed. The doctor told me that it is quite possible that the unprotected exposure to the sun could of contributed to the developement of the moles. I had never heard of this but as a distributor of vitamins and supplements, I now use vitamin D supplements faithfully. Has anyone else heard of this?
